SUCI organises road blockade protesting power tariff hike
Kolkata, Aug 22 (UNI) The Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) today organised road blockades throughout West Bengal to protest power tariff hike, skyrocketing price of essentials and corporate entry into retail markets.
The prices of essentials had increased rapidly in recent times and power tariff had jacked up in domestic sectors, a party statement said adding the corporate entry into the retail sectors would jeopardise the jobs of several people.
The state government should immediately reduce the prices of essentials and power tariff, ban the entry of corporate sectors into the retail market and announce the rehabilitation packages for the flood victims, the statement demanded.
The party resorted to road blockade programmes throughout the state and 356 party workers were taken into custody for violating the order, the statement said.
