Monsoon safari rally from September 2

Bhopal, Aug 22 (UNI) A four-wheeler monsoon safari rally would be organised here on September 2 in a bid to encourage adventurous sports in Madhya Pradesh.

Madhya Pradesh Automobile Association (MPAA) President Akbar Mohammed Khan told reporters here today that only 50 jeeps would be included in the 160-km rally, which would be divided into two categories -- petrol (competitive) and diesel (transport). The rally would be flagged off by Mayor Sunil Sood from Iqbal ground.

Under the petrol category, a difficult terrain with rocks, rivers, rivulets and muddy terrain has been selected for testing skills of participants and efficiency of vehicles.

MPAA Vice President Irshad Mehmood said insurance was compulsory for vehicles taking part in the expedition.

MPAA Secretary Parvez Sharif said the rally carries first prize of Rs 50,000, second prize of Rs 25,000 and third prize of Rs 10,000.

Besides, vehicle's maintenance, youngest driver and best photographer would also be rewarded and former minister and MLA Ajay Singh would confer prizes, he added.
