Mayawati does balancing act: praises IPS, IAS officials

Lucknow, Aug 22 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today showered praise on the state bureaucracy in an apparent attempt to maintain a balance between police and civil services, not usually known to be natural allies.

The balancing act of the Chief Minister became apparent when at the function organised to commemorate completion of hundred days of her government, she praised IAS officers just after felicitating the police personnel on their commendable job in eliminating dreaded dacoit Dadua.

In fact, she came to the podium again to say a word or two for IAS bureaucracy promising rewards if they performed well in execution of developmental works. Rather unusually, she named his two principal secretaries for their hard work in organsing the programme.

Ms Mayawati expected IAS and IPS bureaucracy to work in harmony in the larger interest of the state.

She announced that her government will also accordingly reward the IAS officers on-spot during her surprise inspection programme starting from next month.'' They will certainly be rewarded for their good work but could be punished if the things are adverse'', she said.

Earlier, she rewarded 20 police prsonnel from the level of Additional Director General of Police (ADG) to constable.
