'Involve youth in constructive activities'

Kochi, Aug 22 (UNI) Kerala Students Union (KSU) President Hybee Eden today stressed the need for socio-religious organisations involving the youth in constructive activities to prevent them from going astray.

With the predominantly young Indian population getting oppportunities undreamt of by previous generations, it was important to channelise their energy in the right direction, he said, inaugurating the seventh 'pratishthavarshikam' of the 'parnashala' at the Ernakulam branch of 'Santhigiri Ashramam'.

The function also marked the beginning of the 81sth birth anniversary celebrations of Navajyothisree Karunakara Guru, the founder of Santhigiri Ashramam, which would fall on September 16.

Lauding the role played by Santhigiri Ashramam in giving a sense of purpose to youngsters, Mr Eden recalled the active role played by its youth wings in organising medical camps in the city.

Ashramam General Secretary Swami Chaithanya Jnanathapaswi, presiding over the function, recalled the sacrificial life led by Navajyothisree Karunakara Guru to bring about a spiritual renaissance in the world.

The day-long celebrations started with prayers at 0300 hrs, followed by flag hoisting at 0600 hrs, 'sammelanam' at 1000 hrs, 'aradhana and guru pooja' at noon and 'deepa pradakshinam' in the evening.
