2 cops assaulted by unknown persons in Rajkot

Rajkot, Gujarat, Aug 22 (UNI) Two police constables were injured in an attack by two unknown assailants near a petrol pump on the Jamnagar road.

According to police, last evening, two unidentified youths came on a motorcycle at the petrol pump and asked the cops, who were standing near the site in civil dresses, whether they were policemen or not.

When reply was affirmative, the youths allegedly attacked them with a knife and assaulted them, before fleeing from the scene, the police said.

Seriously injured police constable Sureshbhai Vasava was admitted to the civil hospital while the other constable Mansukhbhai Nimawat suffered minor injuries, the police added.

Police has registered a complaint against the two unknown youths.

The motive behind the attack is not known yet, the police said.

No arrests have been made so far and further investigations in to the incident are on.
