2 brothers held for beating cop

Chandigarh, Aug 22 (UNI) A local court today remanded two brothers, who had beaten up a police constable outside a city college yesterday, in 14-day judicial custody.

Accused Jaskamal and Preet Kamal, who had beaten up police constable Vijay Pal outside MCM DAV College yesterday, surrendered before Judicial Magistratre Sudhir Parmar who remanded them in judicial custody.

The defence counsel said the two youths had come to meet their sister in the college and they were stopped by the constable deployed there. The constable also used abusive language against them which led to the incident, he charged.

The judge fixed August 24 for the hearing on the bail plea of the accused.

The duo, who belonged to Dhuri in Sangrur district of Punjab, had come in a car and had fled after the incident. The car was seized by the police at their residence later.
