12-hour Kohima bandh begins
Kohima, Aug 22: A 12-hour total Kohima bandh, called by Angami Students' Union(ASU) and Angami Youth Organisation(AYO), began at 0600 hours this morning.
The two unions had called this bandh in protest against attempt on life of former ASU President Medo Yokha on August 16 at Kohima allegedly by NSCN(K) activists.
All the Government offices, banks, business establishments and educational institutions were closed and vehicular traffic were off the roads. However, hospitals, pharmacies, paramilitary forces, media offices and funeral services were exempted from the purview of the bandh.
Both organisations had tried to negotiate with the NSCN(K) in order to bring about an amicable settlement to the matter.
Earlier, two phases of their protests had been staged on August 17 and 18. The ASU and AYO also decided to continue their agitation in a phased manner until their demands were met.
