Ustad Rahim Fahimuddin Dagar gets Lifetime Achievement Award

New Delhi, Aug 21 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award to Ustad Rahim Fahimuddin Khan Dagar for his outstanding contribution to Indian classical music.

The Dhrupad maestro was presented a citation and a cash award of Rs eleven lakhs by the Chief Minister in the presence of eminent political leaders, senior government officials, dignitaries, members of music fraternity and select invitees.

The award function was organised by the government and Sahitya Kala Parishad.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that Ustad Fahimuddin Khan Dagar was known not only for the power and spontaneity of his 'alaap' but also for his rich repertoire of composition. It is the quality of music and his distinct style of singing which has captivated millions of listeners not only in India but in many other countries.

The doyen of Dhrupad style of singing, Ustad Rahim Fahimuddin Dagar was born in Alwar, Rajasthan in the year 1927. He learned music under the tutelage of his father Padma Bhushan Ustad Allbande Rahimuddin Dagar for more than 35 years.

However, it was his father's elder brother, the legendary Ustad Nasiruddin Khan Dagar who had initiated the young Rahimuddin into the fold when he was five years old.

Ustad Fahimuddin is one of the greatest living musician of our country and a doyen of Dhrupad style of singing and the senior most member of the Dagar family which has been dedicated to the cause of Dhrupad music for over 20 generations. He is the only living son of illustrious musician Padma Bhushan late Ustad Allabande Rahimmudin Khan Dagar.
