New Delhi, Aug 21: Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Jaswant Singh, today termed 'a serious offence' Indian envoy to the US Ronen Sen's reported remarks describing those opposing the Indo-US nuclear deal as 'headless chicken.'

''The House is aggrieved over these remarks by a servant of the Republic,'' Mr Singh said after the house was assembled after being adjourned thrice in the day over nuclear deal and Mr Sen's remarks.

''Officers must serve the Republic not just a part of it. It is a serious offence,'' Mr Singh added.

''The House has to express its discontent over remarks made by a representative of India,'' the former External Affairs and Defence Minister said.

Mr Singh said if a civil servant openly condemns the proceedings of the house ''it is a sad day for Indian democracy''.
