'I want to play prostitute's role': Apra Mehta
Ahmedabad, Aug 21 (UNI) Television actress Apra Mehta, who plays the blind character named Kuki Kaki in daily soap 'Saat Phere' on Zee TV, says the most challenging role for her would be that of a prostitute.
''I have received much praise and adulation for the blind character in Saat Phere. The only role that I feel most challenging is the character of a prostitute,'' Apra told a news conference here.
Talking about her blind character, she said ''I took inspiration for this character from a relative of mine. She briefed me about the body language of a blind person. However, she warned me against over acting as the body language of a blind person is similar to that of a normal human being.'' ''Blind person's instinct is so sharp that he perfectly knows his movement. For example, he knows how to pick up the spoon while eating and how to walk about the room as normal people do.
Therefore, I took extra care not to make the blind character in Saat Phere look as an overact,'' she said.
On her dream role, she said ''My most challenging dream role will be that of a prostitute, which no woman would want to put herself in. While playing normal character on the screen, one has some real life image associated with that in one's subconcious mind by which one realises the character. However, no actor has any real life image of a prostitute, so it is very difficult to portray it.'' 'Saat Phere' is based on the discrimination and degradation of women that still continues in today's India. The protagonist, Saloni, is one of the girls who faces such a situation.
Saloni is a 24-year-old girl, who has a dark complexion, and the story shows how she, with courage and strength, overshadows her complexion and searches for her own identity. Hence the tagline - 'Saloni ka Safar,' which means Saloni's journey.
