BJP aims at enrolling 50 lakh members before general elections
Jaipur, Aug 21 (UNI) The BJP leadership has assigned to its youth wing the target of enrolling 50 lakh new members in the party by October next, BJP Yuva Morcha national president Amit Thaker said.
Talking to reporters here today, Mr Thaker said tht BJP president Rajnath Singh had asked yuva morcha leadership to launch a special membership drive for enrolling 50 lakh new members between of 18 to 35 years.
Accordingly, a month-long membership drive would be launched throughout the country from September 11 next. He said that the special membership drive was being undertaken for infusing fresh blood in the party for gearing itself up for 2009 general elections.
Among the new members the party wanted to enroll at least 10 per cent women, he said.
In states, Rajasthan had been given target of enrolling 4 lakh members during the drive. The drive in this state would be launched from August 23 in view of the morcha's national convention scheduled to be held in Jaipur between September 28 and 30, he added.
