Rajiv Gandhi remembered on 63rd birth anniv

Allahabad, Aug 20: The 63rd birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was commemorated at his ancestral and home Anand Bhawan here with great enthusiasm.

A large crowd of Congress workers were present to garland his portrait at the historic site.

Congress leader and Allahabad mayor Chaudhary Jitendra Nath Singh said ''Rajiv Gandhi laid the foundation of a strong and progressive India. He fought for the cause of the poor, downtrodden and depressed people in the society. The late PM was a source of inspiration to the young generation.'' The DAV Inter College students observed the day as 'Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas'. Besides, various other programmes, including essay writing and debate competitions were organised by several organisations.
