Over 50,000 devout offer prayers at Kanshi Vishwanath

Varanasi, Aug 20 (UNI) More than 50,000 'shiv bhakts' (Shiv Devotees) from across the country offered prayers at the world famous Kanshi Vishwanath temple here on the penultimate Monday of the auspicious 'Shrawan' month today.

Over 50,000 devout had till 1800 hrs paid obeisance at the temple housing one of the 12 'jyotirlingas,' amid tight security arrangements, sources in temple administration and security claimed.

The entire temple was decorated with 'Rudraksha' garlands as part of the special 'Ardh Narishwar' embelishment symbolising the penultimate Monday of the auspicious month.

The customary red and white silver mask was placed near the 'jyotirlinga' to symbolise the worship of the 'Ardh Narishwar' form of Lord Shiv.

Meanwhile, heavy rush of devotees was also reported from other Shiv temples of the city considered to be the abode of Shiv-Parvati.
