Lankan navy rescues eight Indian fishermen

Colombo, Aug 19 (UNI) Sri Lankan navy has rescued eight Indian fishermen off the island's northern waters and is set to release them to the Indian authorities, officials said today.

According to sources, a group of four Indian fishermen were found drifting off the northern islet of Delft early this morning while another four were rescued four days ago in the same area.

''Today's group were clinging onto some floating ice boxes when the navy found them after their craft had developed engine trouble,'' a naval spokesperson said.

He said the first four rescued fishermen have already been handed over to the Indian authorities at sea while the group found today would be handed over tomorrow.
