Join to fight western troops: Taliban chief

Kabul, Aug 19: Taliban chief Mullah Mohammad Omar has appealed to fellow Afghans to shun their differences and join hands for a jihad to drive western troops out of the country.

"We have to... put aside all of our internal, regional and linguistic differences, and get united against the enemy," the Daily Times quoted the massage sent to a foreign news agency, as saying.

In the appeal made through a Taliban spokesmen, Qari Mohammad Yousuf, Omar said that Afghanistan was once again "occupied by colonialist forces", referring to foreign troops in the country.

Omar's appeal came on the eve of the 88th anniversary of Afghanistan's independence from Britain.
