Couple charred to death, son in serious condition

Kancheepuram, Aug 19 (UNI) An elderly couple were charred to death near an open field at Araiyapakkam, near here, early today.

Police said Dhanapal (60) and Chinnaponnu (50) of Kizhvazham near Madurantakam of the District were proceeding to the field when the former stepped on a live wire which had fallen on the road in last night's heavy downpour in the district.

Chinnaponnu who rushed to his rescue also met with the same fate.

The couple's son Kumar (20) received severe shock when he tried to save his parents.

He was admitted to Madurantakam Government Hospital in serious condition.
