Congress urges CPI(M) to pay compensation

Vijayawada, Aug 19: The city Congress Committee today demanded the Communist Party of India (Marxist) to pay a compensation of Rs Three lakh to the family of a woman, who died allegedly during the CPI(M)-led "Bhupooratam" at Payakapuram yesterday.

Addressing a press conference here, Congress Chief P Sominaidu alleged that that B Manemma (50) had fainted and died while participating in the land struggle agitation yesterday.

He demanded that the CPI(M) should own the reponsibility for her death and pay compensation to her family members.

Earlier, Mr Sominaidu handed over Rs 5,000 to the victim's family for the funeral expenses.

He also promised them a house under JNNURM scheme.
