Three die when walls collapse due to floods

Purulia, Aug 18 (UNI) Three people died early this morning when walls in two villages under Raghunathpur subdivision of the district collapsed under incessant rainfall and heavy floods.

A woman and her one-and-half-year-old child died in Chakasda village under Hura police station area while a 48-year-old woman died in Nudundith village under Para police station area.

According to the local Met office reports, there has been 122 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours.

Rainfall has further affected railway services between Purulia and Tamna station under Adra Division of South East Railways, Adra Divisional Railway Manager Om Prakash Chaubey said here today.

The railway tracks have been submerged under rain water forcing railway authorities to use only one section of the rail lines, making the tracks rpone to further damage, Mr Chaubey added.

Currently, river Kangshabati is flowing over the railway tracks.
