AP: Notorious criminal killed in encounter

Anantapur, Aug 18: A notorious criminal, who was involved in more than 30 criminal cases, was killed and two police constables injured in an encounter near Konapuram village of Uravankonda mandal in this district of Andhra Pradesh today.

Police said K Gopal alias Ranga Reddy, who was also the district leader of CPI(ML) splinter group, was killed in the encounter when his group members opened fire on the special police party, injuring two constables, who were combing the area. Gopal was also involved in extortion and murder cases.

In retaliation, police opened fire and recovered a revolver and a granade from the deceased. Two of the group members, had, however, fled from the scene, police added.
