Noida, Aug 18 (UNI) A teacher, allegedly abducted and assaulted from near Sector 71, at the instance of a doctor, succumbed to his injuries this evening, police said.

Mahesh Vats, who was beaten up and then picked up by three assailants travelling in an Alto car on Thursday, was later found at the Prayag Hospital by the police, who took him to the Metro Hospital, where he died of his injuries.

On August 16, U K Bharadwaj, a friend of Vats, filed a complaint against one Dr V P Singh of Prayag Hospital, alleging that he orchestrated the kidnapping due to an old dispute with Vats who, the doctor alleged, had not paid his fees for treatment of an injury at the hospital over an year ago.

In view of the serious injuries to Vats, the police, despite the contention by the doctor that the assailants admitted Vats to the hospital, registered a case of kidnapping and attempt to murder against him.

V P Singh was arrested by the police yesterday and send to a 14-day judicial custody, S P Paresh Pandey said.

However, with the death of the teacher, the case has been converted to one of kidnapping and murder. The police will tomorrow submit an application in a local court for a police remand for the doctor.
