Kochi, Aug 18 (UNI) The Kerala High Court today directed the Director General of Police to conduct an inquiry into the allegation that the management of Dr Somervel Memorial CSI Medical College, Karakkonam, took Rs 5,00,000 from a candidate and demanded another Rs 10 lakh for admission to the MBBS course.

Justice B Thottathil Radhakrishnan, hearing a petition filed by the candidate, Lovely S Livingstone, also directed that the inquiry be conducted by a senior officer not below the rank of SP.

The court observed that prescript of law, which prohibits taking capitation fee would prima facie show that the demand and receipt of any amount in excess of fee in any term would amount to unlawful extraction of money by the educational institution and such amount would easily fall under the term bribe.
