Five persons killed in building collapse

Mumbai, Aug 18 (UNI) Five members of a family, including three children, were killed and one injured when a major portion of 100-year-old Girdhar Niwas collapsed late last night at Lamington road in south Mumbai.

The injured has been admitted to a nearby Nair hospital.

A portion of first and second floor of five-storeyed Girdhar Niwas, a residential building collapsed at around 2230 hrs yesterday, in which five members of a family lost their lives.

This is the second such incident in a month. First Laxmi Chhaya building collpased at Borivali in western suburbs, in which more than thirty people had died and 17 others injured.

Eight fire engines and five ambulances were deployed in the rescue operation, the sources added.
