Manipur: District status demanded for Sadar Hills
Imphal, Aug 18: The Sadar Hills District Demand Committee (SHDDC) has demanded full revenue district status for Sadar Hills, presently under Senapati district.
SHDDC president H Guite here today said the committee had decided to picket government offices from August 20 to August 25 as part of their agitation.
The Committee would also boycott Panchayat elections at Sadar Hills, he added.
The Manipur government had agreed to grant full revenue district status to Sadar Hills in 1996 which was, however, put off after some groups opposed the move.
The people of Jiribam at Imphal East had also demanded district status for Jiribam sub-division in Manipur.
Presently, there are nine districts in the state.
