M'shtra: Baba Amte hospitalised
Nagpur, Aug 18: Noted social worker and Magsaysay Award winner Baba Amte has been admitted to a private nursing home here after a decrease in his haemoglobin level and platelets count.
The 93-year old Mr Amte was brought here from Warora in Chandrapur district late last evening, his personal physician Dr Vijay Pol told the sources. He had been administered blood and platelets last night, and doctors attending on him would review his conditions before deciding the further course of treatment tonight, he said.
Mr Amte's haemoglobin had decreased to 6.8, while the normal range is 13 to 14, and platelets to 14,000 (normal range 1 lakh), after which he had been brought to Nagpur, Dr Pol said. This was due to bleeding through a catheter that Mr Amte had recently been fitted with due to an enlarged prostrate, he added.
