6 children died due to disease

Jabalpur, Aug 18 (UNI) At least 6 children died and 50 others were seriously ill due to viral fever and other diseases at Barela town in Jabalpur district, official sources said.

Denying outbreak of any epidemic, an official spokesman said the deaths occured due to wrong treatment by private doctors. Ever since medical teams from the district hospital started treatment two days ago, the situation was brought under control, Sub-Divisional officer Shailendra Singh told UNI today.

During blood tests, two people were found to be malaria positive while 50 were found to be afflicted with viral fever, he said, adding the deaths due to consumption of polluted water and insanitary conditions were reported last week.

Barela Town Panchayat is famous for production of bamboo products, particularly handicrafts.
