US to recommend import safety measures in Nov
WASHINGTON, Aug 17 (Reuters) The Bush administration will recommend specific actions by mid-November to improve the safety of US imported foods and other goods, the chair of a government commission looking into the issue said today.
House and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt said he would discuss import safety matters in visits to China at least twice before the end of this year.
American consumers are increasingly worried about imports after a spate of dangerous products from China, including toys, toothpaste and seafood.
