TDP contractors delaying irrigation projects: Minister

Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, Aug 17 (UNI) State Transport Minister K Lakshminarayana today claimed the Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) planted its men as contractors for all major irrigation projects in the state to deliberately delay their execution and retard in developmental programmes, as part of a strategy.

Speaking to reporters here today, he said the Rs 1,000 crore Pulichintala Project on River Krishna in the district was one of the victims with its execution 'intentionally delayed by contractors' citing baseless technical problems and queries. The project should have been completed last year.

Giving an account of developmental programmes in his Pedakurapadu Assembly Constituency, the Minister claimed he had redeemed his election pledges.

He hinted Congress Supremo Sonia Gandhi may visit the district in the first week of next month.
