SC restrains Haryana from rupturing Bhakra Canal

New Delhi Aug 17 (UNI) The Supreme Court today restrained Haryana till September 5 from perforating and rupturing Bhakra Canal at Hansi-Bhutana in Haryana.

A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice R V Raveendran also issued notices on an application filed by state of Punjab seeking to restrain Haryana from diverting the water from Bhakra Canal as it is against the interest of Punjab.

The court, however, said, the digging can go on but only rider is that there shall be no rupturing.

Earlier Senior Counsel, Shanti Bhushan, appearing for Haryana strongly opposed the issuance of any interim order without hearing the state.
