DENPASAR, Indonesia, Aug 17 (Reuters) Indonesia reduced the jail terms of 10 Islamic militants, convicted of involvement in bomb attacks on the resort island of Bali, by up to five months today to mark the country's Independence Day.

Similar remissions in the past have caused anger in some countries, particularly Australia, which lost 92 citizens in the attacks in 2002 and 2005.

Six men convicted of helping to plan the 2002 bombings of nightclubs, sheltering main suspects and setting up a Web site to support the attack, got their jail terms reduced by five months.

The attacks on night spots in the resort island's Kuta area killed 202 people, mostly foreign tourists.

Three militants -- Amrozi, Imam Samudra and Ali Gufron -- were sentenced to death over the attacks, although their case is being reviewed by the Supreme Court.

Four militants convicted of involvement in suicide attacks on restaurants in the island in 2005, which killed 20 people, also had their sentences cut by two months.

''Remissions were given to the Bali bombing convicts because they displayed good behaviour,'' Ilham Djaya, chief warden of Bali's main prison, said.
