Jalandhar, Aug 17 (UNI) Three persons, including a head constable, were arrested and an amount of Rs 2.70 lakh, which they had looted, was recovered from their possession, police said today.

Superintendent of Police Surender Kumar Kalia said that Prof Devi Dayal Arora in a complaint to the police alleged that on August 14, while he was returning in his car carrying Rs 3.20 lakh, which he received on account of sale of his school to Ms Bimla Devi, two motorcycle borne miscreants stopped his car and looted the entire money.

He said after gathering the evidences, the needle of suspicion shifted towards two persons, who were present at the time of delivering the money to Prof Arora by Ms Bimal Devi.

Mr Kalia said they were identified as Head Constable Lakhbir Singh, posted at Punjab Armed Police (PAP) here and Yog Raj, both residents of the city.

When the two rounded up and were separately subjected to sustained questioning, it was revealed that Yog Raj and Lakhbir were aware that Ms Bimla had to pay the amount to Prof Arora. They had conspired with their two accomplices namely Lakhwinder Singh and Sukhwinder Singh, who intercepted the Prof Arora and looted the amount, he said.

Yog Raj and Lakhwinder were arrested and their share of loot was recovered, however from the remaining two culprits, Sukhwinder was arrested last night from the field after a chase, while his accomplice Lakhwinder managed to escape.
