Demonstrations prohibited in HPU Campus

Shimla, Aug 17 (UNI) District Magistrate Tarun Kapoor today prohibited holding of demonstration, raising of slogans, carrying of objects capable of use as weapon of offence under section of 144 CrPC in view of the Student's Central Association (SCA) polls in Himachal Pradesh University.

He said SCA elections in all the affiliated colleges of the state would be held on August 18, and the prohibitory orders would come into force with immediate effect and will remain in force upto August 22 to maintain public order and safety.

Military, Para Military and Police force while on duty and funeral and marriage processions have been exempted under this order, he said.

District Magistrate said local authoroties were of the view that that anti-social and subversive elements could misuse the poll occasion create public disorder and cause damage to public properties.
