Delimitation completed, notified for 25 states, excludes four NEs

New Delhi, Aug 17 (UNI) The Delimitation Commission has completed the delimitation process for 3,726 Assembly constituencies and 513 Lok Sabha constituencies in the country barring in four North Eastern States due to the stay order by judiciary.

A commission release issued here today said the delimitation process for Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland has been stayed by the Guwahati High Court where the legality of 2001 census has been challenged. The Centre's appeal for Manipur is pending before the Supreme Court.

The Commission said it followed a transparent procedure while carrying out the exercise. In the past three years, it held 130 public sittings in 67 cities/ towns all over the country where the objections and suggestions against the draft proposals were heard from 7119 people. About 1,25,000 people were present during the deliberations. At least Rs 20 crore has so far been incurred on the exercise.

The commission has notified 25 states. It would be obligatory for the Central Goverment to have the Presidential order issued for the implementation of readjustment in these states, the release added.
