BJP demands judicial probe into land scam case

New Delhi, Aug 17 (UNI) Accusing the CBI of shielding Delhi land scam case accused Ashok Malhotra, the BJP today called for a judicial enquiry into the case.

Delhi unit President Harsh Vardhan said the party did not trust the CBI enquiry. The truth would come out after the enquiry was conducted under the constant supervision of a judge, he noted.

Since many Congress leaders, including Chief Minister Sheila Dixit, were involved in this bungling, the government wanted to hide the matter, he claimed.

He alleged that the accused was allotted the Assembly canteen tender under the influence of former Speaker Purshottam Goel.

''After that he continued to remain the canteen operator as he enjoyed the influence of Congress President Subhash Chopra and Assembly Speaker Prem Singh. The canteen was allotted to him in violation of rules during the Congress rule. The CAG has also objected to this allotment,'' he said.

Mr Vardhan added that Congress patronage helped Malhotra become a ''land mafia'' in a short period of time.
