Bandh disrupts life in Manipur
Imphal, Aug 17: Life was disrupted in Manipur today due to a 24-hour bandh called by the All Naga Students Association, Manipur (ANSAM) and Kuki Students Organisation(KSO).
However, educational institutions and medical services were not affected as they were exempted from the purview of the bandh.
The bandh was called to demand improvement of National Highway 39.
Movement of vehicles on NH 39 was sparse and all inter-state bus services were also cancelled.
Meanwhile, the All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) called a 12-hour general strike on August 20.
Assistant secretary of ATSUM Apao Haokip said the general strike would be followed by economic blockade on all highways of the state, including NH 39 and NH 53.
The ATSUM called the bandh to demand proper reservation policy for the tribals in the state.
