Babloo Srivastav remanded to 14 days judicial custody
New Delhi, Aug 17 (UNI) A local court today remanded Underworld don Babloo Srivastav 14 days judicial custody under the Arms Act for running an extortion racket.
The special cell of Delhi police had lodged an FIR against Babloo and his associate Sazal-ur-Rahman on December 29, 2006. According to the prosecution, the duo ran the extortion racket between 1983-97.
The Defence counsel pleaded that Babloo not be handed over to the police under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) as it is allegedly against the undertaking given by the Indian government to Singapore authorities at the time of his extradition in 1995. Babloo was extradited on the ground of his involvement in four criminal cases excluding the present MCOCA case according to his counsel.
He argued that Babloo has not made any confessional statement and also made an application of discharge before the court.
