Army Chief calls upon students to learn foreign language

Bangalore, Aug 17 (UNI) Chief of Army Staff General J J Singh today inaugurated a Rs 20 crore complex of the Army Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology here, with a call to students to learn a foreign language of their choice.

Stating that the hospitality industry was poised for an exponential growth and offered tremendous opportunity after Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO), he said the course content of the Army Institute enriched the ablity to manage resources, including Human Resource.

''This exposure provides excellent opportunities to the students, irrespective of the organisation they might choose to work with in future. After BPO and KPO, hospitality is likely to be the next major service industry ...Our students with the advantage of services background and excellent training have a bright future,'' he said.

General Singh said the concept of welfare had undergone a paradigm shift. Housing, Health and Education had been on focus and a large percentage of welfare funds were earmarked for education.

He said there were 123 Army Schools spread all over the country.

74 per cent children in Army schools are these of war widows and retired defence personnel,'' he added.

Besides, there were 12 professional colleges, covering all possible fields like Engineering, Dental, Management, Hotel Management, Law, B Ed, Nursing and Fashion Design.
