Mah: Accused held in Kadva Sugar Coop scam

Nashik, Aug 17: Another accused in the Rs 3.13 crore sugar fraud case at Kadva Sugar Cooperative was arrested by Vani Police on August 14.

The accused, Prakash N Patil, chief of sugar sales department, had appealed for anticipatory bail. However, after his bail plea was rejected, Patil surrendered before the Vani Police on August 14. He was later produced before a local court, which remanded him to police custody till August 20, police said today.

With his arrest, the total number of arrested accused in the scam has gone up to 8.

Earlier, trader Paresh Thakkar, Executive Director Namdev Vithoba Babadkar, Chief Accountant Shivaji Tulshiram Bhalerao, Assistant Accountant Baburao K Aher, Cashier Raghunath Kisan Jadhav, Clerk-cum- cashier Pandit Kisan Jadhav and, Resident observer of State Cooperative Bank N V Jondhale, were arrested on August 4.

The Vani police are now looking for the remaining three accused.

All of them have been accused of illegally selling sugar worth Rs 3,13,59,560 from June 25, 2004 to December 22, 2005.
