Andaman MP seeks infrastructure for new district
Port Blair, Aug 17 (UNI) The lone MP of Andaman and Nicobar Islands today demanded proper infrastructure for the newly created district, North and Middle Andaman, which completed a year recently.
Previously, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands had two districts, Andaman and Nicobar.
However, a year ago, a new district, North and Middle Andaman, was carved out of Andaman district.
Andaman MP Bhakta met Lt Governor of the union territory Bhopinder Singh and placed his demands.
''Villagers of North and Middle Andaman are neglected and something must be done for them as early as possible,'' the MP told UNI here.
Besides, Mr Bhakta also highlighted the need for strengthening the Revenue department, tourism promotion and upgradation of medical facilities for the new district as people of the area were dissatisfied with the new district administration.
''The district administration has failed in various sectors due to lack of proper infrastructure, Mr Bhakta alleged.
He also demanded compensation for the flood-hit villagers in North and Middle Andaman district and repairing of Panchawati village road.
