AIADMK to protest rise in guideline value rates

Chennai, Aug 17 (UNI) The Opposition AIADMK will hold protest demonstrations throughout Tamil Nadu on August 24 in protest against the manifold increase in the guideline value of lands in the state.

The demonstration would be held in front of all the district collectorates, AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa said in a statement here today.

She said the DMK government had increased the guideline value of rural and urban lands manifold since August 1, this year.

But the previous AIADMK regime, despite representations from the registration department, did not raise the guideline value considering public welfare.

The stamp duty too was reduced to eight per cent from 13 per cent during the AIADMK rule, she claimed.

Alleging that the ruling DMK government had allowed registration without the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for lands that belonged to temples, Wakf Board and local bodies, she said the protest demonstration was to demand restoration of previous guideline value and also to stress that lands should be registered only after receipt of the NOC if the land belonged to temples, Wakf Board or local bodies.
