Toll in Bangla flood rises to 516
Dhaka, Aug 16: The toll in Bangladesh's current summer flood rose to 516 as health officials recorded 35 more deaths from drowning, disease and snake-bite.
An official of the Health Directorate Control Room said 35 more deaths were reported in last 24 hours, pushing the toll to over 500 since the monsoon floods struck the country on July 30.
Water-borne diarrhoea infected more than 63,000 people, and 15 of them have died so far. A total of 3,261 medical teams are treating the patients at hospitals and relief camps.
More than 10 million people have been battered by the floodwaters that inundated their houses and croplands. According to the food and disaster management ministry nearly 2,00,000 people are still staying in relief centers in 39 flood-hit districts.
