Magnitude 6.7 quake strikes Solomon Islands
SINGAPORE, Aug 16 (Reuters) A magnitude 6.7 quake struck the Solomon Islands to the northeast of Australia today, the US Geological Survey said on its Web site.
The USGS, monitored in Singapore, said the quake's epicenter was about 2 km under the sea and occurred 75 km west-south-west of Honiara, the capital of the Solomon Islands.
There were no immediate reports of damage and the Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said in a statement on its Web site that a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami was not expected.
