577 pilgrims leave for Amarnath

Jammu, Aug 16: The Amarnath yatra resumed with 577 pilgrims leaving for Pahalgam and Baltal base camps today, from where they would move towards the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir official sources said.

The batch, comprising 331 men, 127 women, 25 children and 94 sadhus, left in a fleet of 18 vehicles, including 17 buses and one light motor vehicles (LMV) admist tight security from here at 0505 hrs this morning, sources added.

With today's convoy, the 44th this year, a total of 55,223 pilgrims had left for the holy shrine from the Jammu Base camp since July, sources said.
