WCL officer nabbed taking bribe

Nagpur, Aug 15 (UNI) CBI sleuths have nabbed a senior official of the public sector Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) allegedly red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 in Chandrapur in Vidarbha region.

The officer, identified as Personnel Manager D K Chandok, was trapped in his office last evening after he accepted the money from the complainant, one Ranjan Sharma, for not demolishing the house that he had allegedly built by encroaching upon land belonging to WCL, CBI sources said.

Chandok had earlier asked for the money to ignore the encroachment on WCL land, Sharma said in his complaint to the CBI. The securitymen of WCL had earlier intervened and stopped the construction work that Sharma was carrying out at his house after rains damaged the structure, the sources said. The securitymen had asked Sharma to meet Chandok to resolve the matter, they added.
