India's Independence day celebrated in Nepal
Kathmandu, Aug 15 (UNI) Indian Ambassador to Nepal Shiv Shankar Mukherjee hoisted the tricolour at the Embassy premises here to mark India's 61st Independence Day today.
On the occasion, 17 ambulances were gifted by the Government of India to the non-profit organisations, charitable institutes and government organisations in different parts of Nepal.
Mr Mukherjee presented ambulances to 13 recipient organisations.
During the function, the Indian Ambassador also presented books worth Nepali Rupees 300,000 to 17 educational and training institutions located in different regions of Nepal, including some remote districts such as Bajura, Baitadi and Mustang.
Speaking to mediapersons, Mr Mukherjee said the Nepalese government should not postpone the constituent assembly poll, slated for November 22, at any cost.
''India is ready to help for the conduction of free and fair elections,'' he said, adding that the mandate of the current Nepalese Government was to hold the election.
Meanwhile, Consul General of India, Birgunj also presented four ambulances to organisations located in Makwanpur, Rautahat, Chitwan and Mahottari districts, during a public function at Birgunj.
