Indian community celebrates Independence Day in Thailand
Bangkok, Aug 15 (UNI) Indian Ambassador to Thailand Latha Reddy hoisted the tricolour before a large gathering of the members of the Indian community at the Indian Embassy here this morning to mark the 60th anniversary of India's Independence.
About 300 Thai nationals of Indian origin as well as Indian citizens working or living in the Thai capital were present on the occasion.
Children from a prominent Thai-Indian school in Bangkok and members of the Indian diaspora here rendered patriotic songs in Hindi, Telugu, Marathi and Bengali.
Later in the day, Thai Foreign Minister Nitya Pibulsonggram is scheduled to be the chief guest at an Independence Day reception hosted jointly by the India-Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Indian embassy.
