Dasara to begin from Oct 12

Mysore, Aug 15 (UNI) The world famous Dasara festivities will be celebrated in a befitting manner in this city of Palaces from October 12 to 21.

Talking to mediapersons here, Cooperative Minister G T Deve Gowda, who was also District Incharge Minister, said the festivities would be inaugurated by Swamiji Shivakumaraswamy of Siddaganga Math on October 12, before Sri Chamundeswari Temple atop of the Chamundi Hills in a traditional manner.

He said of the total Rs 2.5 crore expenditure estimated for the Dasara festivities, Rs 50 lakh would be raised through the sale of gold cards, which were released yesterday in Bangalore by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy.

The State Government has allocated Rs 80 lakh and the balance would be mobilised from the sponsors, he added.

Mr Gowda said Minister for Engergy H D Revanna had taken the responsibility of illuminating the entire City, including Chamundi Hills and heritage buildings, during the ten-day festivities.

About ten lakh people were expected to visit the city during the festivities.
