Traders demand election to Chamber of Commerce
Puducherry, Aug 14 (UNI) Co-ordination Committee of Puducherry State Traders Associations today urged the administration to take immediate steps to hold elections to the Chamber of Commerce, and hand it over to traders here.
In a memorandum to Chief Minister N Rangasammy, Committee Coordinator A SMohammed Nizaam pointed out that the Chamber of Commerce was set up in 1849, and later it was functioning with setting up of French degree in 1934, with the consent of the French president.
Its 12 godowns and offices were purchased by the government and no elections were held after 1966, he said, adding some vasted interst were trying to misuse its properties.
He demanded the government to hold elections and hand over the chamber to the traders.
