SSP in vigilance net in Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 14: Jammu and Kashmir State Vigilance Organization (SVO) has registered a case against Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Iqbal Afroz Malik of Police Transport Workshop here for causing a loss of Rs 3.18 lacs to the state exchequer.

A SVO spokesman said, a tip off was received that SSP had purchased coolant on higher rates without following any of the codal requirements such as invitation of competitive bids and assessment of reasonability of rates.

He said the officer in a criminal conspiracy with the proprietor of a local firm namely M/s Brand View Traders, New Secretariat Road, Srinagar, purchased 1751 liters of coolant faster (RTU), which is used in automobiles, on a highly exorbitant rate of Rs 220 per ltr.

However, on verification by the SVO from the Principals of the product, M/s Operween Lubricant Promoters Private Limited, Jaipur, Rajsthan, reveled that the said coolant was being sold by the manufacturers at the rate of Rs 38 per ltr. including VAT and freight charges.

In this way the SSP workshop Srinagar has, by misuse of his official position and for pecuniary benefits conferred undue benefits upon himself and the supplier firm thereby causing a loss to the state exchequer worth over Rs 3.18 lacs.

Prima facie offences punishable under 5(2) P.C. Act r/w 120-B RPC where established in the course of the verification.
