Residents picket Puducherry Municipality

Puducherry, Aug 14 (UNI) Members from 35 families residing at T V Nagar here today picketed the Puducherry Municipality and later Office of the Municipal Commissioner to press their demands.

According to the agitators, they were residing in a particular area in T V Nagar for the past 30 years and they need to pay house tax to get pattas.

When they applied to the municipality to arrange for payment of house tax they were told that as it was a private land, it would seek objections from any quarters. Accordingly, a notice inviting objections before August ten was put up on the municipality notice board and on August ten, the municipality informed the people that none had objected.

However, the municipality informed the people that it could not arrange their payment of house tax as there was an objection on August seven. Irate over this contradictory statement, they resorted to the agitation, residents said.

Later, the Municipal Ccommissioner held talks with the protestors and assured to look into their problem following which the stir was called off.
