Prez, PM expected to attend Bagat Singh's B'centennary

Chandigarh, Aug 14 (UNI) President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh are expected to take part in the national-level function at Amritsar to commemorate the birth centenary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh on September 28.

An official release stated that an assurance to this effect was given to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal by Dr Singh over phone last evening.

Mr Badal urged the Prime Minister to set up a National Martyrs Museum and an International Youth Educational Institute at Amritsar.

A national-level implementation committee has been set up under the chairmanship of the Union Human Resource Develop Minister Arjun Singh to celebrate the event at the national level.

A high-level meeting of representatives of the Union Government and of various political parties, held under the chairmanship of Mr Badal decided that an all-party delegation led by him would meet Dr Singh shortly to chalk out the details of the programme.

Mr Badal said on the occasion of the martyr's birth anniversary, unpublished literature of Shaheed Bhagat Singh would be published, besides holding seminars, functions, exhibitions and various other activities, to spread the ideology and patriotic messages of Shaheed Bhagat Singh.

A hand-written diary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh would also be published by the State Government.

Mr Badal said the Punjab Government would commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, along with Shaheed Rajguru and Shaheed Sukhdev.

A sub-committee, comprising the representatives of various political parties, would be constituted for the proper implementation of year-long celebrations in Punjab.
